Welcome to Oak Class
We are a happy, hard working class of Year 5 and Year 6 children. We enjoy a creative curriculum packed full of interesting things including topic work and science experiments, themed days and Forest School.
The class gallery page is regularly updated with photographs showing the work that we do in school. You can reach it by clicking the link in the right-hand menu.
P.E will be on Thursday and Friday. This half-term we have R and D coming in to do Tag rugby coaching on a Thursday.
The children have homework books with a daily reading log for parents to sign and the homework for each week.
Creative Curriculum homework is designed to help the children to extend their knowledge about our topic. Children complete 4 tasks over the term, presenting their work on each of the homework hand in days. (See the grid below.)
Weekly Maths homework is set on a Friday and marked in class the following Friday so make sure you bring it in on that day. Learning spellings is also part of the weekly homework. These will be tested every Friday where new spellings will also be given out. The year 5/6 spelling words are available at the bottom of this page and are included in some weeks spellings tests. The children are expected to be able to spell these words by the end of year 6. Being able to recall all the times tables up to 12 x 12 is an expectation by the time the children are in year 5. Being able to recall these number facts quickly has a huge impact on the children's maths skills, especially when we learn about fractions. All children in school have access to Times Tables Rockstars so they can practise at home.
